Building a dream pool is a journey, and every great journey begins with a single step—or in our case, a single scoop of dirt. At Bliss Pools, we love taking our clients behind the scenes to show exactly what goes into creating a backyard oasis.
Starting a New Dream Pool
There is a unique energy on the first day of a pool build. We recently broke ground on a beautiful new custom project. The goal was straightforward: excavate the shape, form the structure, and prep the site for the next phase—all while keeping the homeowner’s property as tidy as possible.
Excavation is the phase where the vision on paper finally starts to take physical shape in the ground. It’s loud and messy work, but when handled by experienced operators, it’s also incredibly fast.
Speed and Precision: Digging a Pool in Just 5 Hours
One of the most common questions we get is, “How long will my yard be a construction zone?” While every soil condition and design is different, our skilled crews work with impressive speed.
On this recent job, the entire dig was completed in just about 5 hours.
Moving that much earth that quickly requires a coordinated effort. Our excavators carve out the deep end, shape the shallow ledges, and define the tanning shelves with precision. Completing the heavy digging in a single day minimizes the disruption to the neighborhood and keeps the project timeline moving forward without delay.
Forming Up and Prepping for Steel
Speed implies nothing without accuracy. By the end of the 5-hour mark, we didn’t just have a hole in the ground; we had a formed pool ready for the next stage.
- Precision Shaping: The walls and benches were carved to exact specifications.
- Form Boards: Wooden forms were set around the perimeter to define the bond beam and shape of the pool.
- Ready for Rebar: With the dirt removed and the shape defined, the site was perfectly prepped for the steel crew to arrive the very next morning.
Respecting the Property: A “Nice Clean Yard”
Construction is inherently messy, but leaving a site in chaos is never acceptable. In the video update from this job site, we highlighted something we pride ourselves on: a nice, clean yard.
Even after moving tons of dirt, our team ensured that:
- Trash and debris were piled up and managed.
- The access path was respected.
- The surrounding area was kept tidy.
Respecting your property is just as important as building the pool itself. “The guys did a good job today” isn’t just about the digging; it’s about the care taken with the client’s home.
What Comes Next?
With the excavation complete and the forms set, this project is moving right along. The next morning brings the steel installation phase, where we create the rebar cage that gives the gunite shell its incredible strength. After that, we schedule the gunite shoot, and the pool truly becomes a permanent structure.
