Building a resort-style oasis requires more than just digging a hole; it requires a symphony of skilled trades, precise engineering, and an eye for design. At Bliss Pools, we pride ourselves on transparency and craftsmanship at every stage of the build.
In our latest project update in Montgomery, Texas, we are moving from the critical “rough” stages of electrical and plumbing into the beautiful finishing touches that bring the pool to life. Here is a look at what goes into building a custom pool that is as functional as it is beautiful.
Lighting and Safety: Laying the Groundwork
Before we can focus on the aesthetics, we have to ensure the pool is safe and functional. Our team recently wrapped up the electrical phase, pulling wires and setting up the lighting schematics.
For this specific project, we installed a comprehensive lighting package to ensure the pool looks stunning day or night:
-
Three Main Pool Lights: Strategically placed in the shallow end, the middle of the tanning ledge, and the deep end for even illumination.
-
Spa Lighting: A dedicated light to create ambiance in the spa area.
The Importance of Grounding
Safety is paramount in pool construction. During this phase, we also installed the copper grounding wire. While it might just look like a simple wire running around the perimeter of the shell, this is a critical safety feature that bonds the pool structure and equipment, preventing electrical hazards.
The Heart of the Pool: The Equipment Pad
A pool is only as good as the equipment running it. We take pride in installing “nice clean pads”—organized, accessible, and equipped with top-of-the-line technology.
On this build, we installed a robust equipment set designed for low maintenance and high comfort:
-
Heater & Chiller: A combo that allows the homeowners to control water temperature year-round, cooling the water during blistering Texas summers and warming it up on chilly evenings.
-
Filtration & Sanitation: Includes a cartridge filter, a chlorinator, and an autofill system to keep water levels consistent automatically.
-
Pumps: Dedicated filter pumps and a separate water feature pump to power the spillways.
Putting on the “Pretty Stuff”: Tile and Coping
Once the electrical and plumbing were approved and the water pumped out, we moved on to what we like to call “the pretty stuff”—the tile and coping phase. This is where the client’s vision really starts to take physical shape.
Custom Material Selections
This project features a mix of natural textures and custom integrations:
-
Raised Wall: Clad in split-face travertine for a rugged, elegant look.
-
Waterline: A classic 3×6 tile that provides a clean border around the water’s edge.
-
Spillway: A stacked stone spillway capped with travertine, creating a soothing water feature sound.
Personalized Design Touches
At Bliss Pools, we believe your outdoor living space should be an extension of your home. To seamlessly blend this new pool with the existing architecture, the homeowner requested that we incorporate brick from her house into the pool design. We installed a top row of matching brick across the raised walls, perfectly tying the new construction to the original home.
